Plans are moving forward on the I95/I16 interchange.

Expansion of the I-95/I-16 is Moving Forward

in News

As reported by Ansley Christian of www.wjcl.com reports plans for open meetings held by the GA Department of Transportation on expanding this overworked interchange….

“Georgia Dept. of Transportation has scheduled two open house meetings in June to discuss two major road work projects that will have significant impacts for our area.

GDOT will be discussing the I-16 at I-95 interchange reconstruction project as well as the widening of Interstate 16 on Thursday, June 6.

Two meetings will be held on that date: one from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Both will take place at Garden City City Hall which is located at 100 Central Avenue.

As WJCL 22 News previously reported, the I-16 project will expand the roadway from four to six lanes beginning at I-95 to I-516.

Additionally, the interchange improvement project will reconstruct the existing I-16 at I-95 interchange and includes upgrading entrance and exit ramps, constructing new collector-distributor lanes, and installing new lighting and Intelligent Transportation System technology.

GDOT says the improvement projects will enhance traffic flow and improve safety along the gateway to the state’s growing port in Savannah, one of Georgia’s busiest freight corridors.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2022.”
