First City Progress: Garden City seeks to build affordable housing at former school site

As the city sees record growth and rising property values, Garden City is looking to turn a 14-acre lot into affordable housing. 

The city-owned property is at the corner of 5th and Oak streets and is the former site of Haynes Elementary School. The school is demolished — all that remains is a chain-link batting cage and a tree-ringed field.
