CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTGS) — Students at Godley Station School in Chatham County tested out the Safe Routes and Walking School Bus program for the first time, Wednesday.

Savannah Chatham County School System (SCCPSS) Campus Police launched the program as a way to provide safety to students who walk to school.

“With our enrollment, we have a lot of walkers especially to the Highlands and Spring Lakes area, so having the ability to put adults on the route to school, gives I would think, parents a sense of safety,” said Principal Dr. Lesley Jordan.

School staff and parent volunteers are now assigned to stops along two routes to walk students as a group to school.
