Chatham County residents want more investment in walking, biking infrastructure

The survey conducted for the new Plan 2040 revealed deep dissatisfaction among Savannah and Chatham County residents about transportation, especially the quality of bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure.

The updated comprehensive plan, which was prepared by the Metropolitan Planning Commission, might be rubber stamped by the Chatham County Commission and Savannah City Council in October, but both bodies should be prepared to ask hard questions before adoption and consider significant policy changes down the road.

For starters, elected officials should explore issues related to the survey itself. More than 1500 residents responded to the survey, but the participants did not reflect the demographics of the county as a whole.

Offering close proximity to the I-95/I-16 freeways and within a 10-mile radius of the Port of Savannah, the fastest growing container port in the United States by TEU’s, the buildings feature 32’ warehouse clear height, 190’+ concrete truck courts, front- and rear-load configurations and excess trailer parking.
